Bothnia Wind, Construction of the Deep Quay 3
Construction of the Deep Quay 3, with an attached assembly field for offshore wind turbine components, in the Deep harbour of the Port of Raahe will enable receiving and handling of large project cargo, especially offshore wind turbine components. This supports the green transition in the region, in particular in the transport and energy sectors.
Project name: Developing infrastructure in Port of Raahe for offshore wind farm needs in the northern Baltic Sea
Project acronym: 23-FI-TG-Bothnia Wind
Call: CEF-T-2023-COMPGEN
The Quay will also be used for other project and break-bulk cargo as well as future transports of recycled steel (raw material) and export of the final products of the local steel factory, supporting steel industry’s carbon neutrality targets.
Flexibility and optimising port operations related to cargo flows, such as unloading and loading of different cargo items during a port call yields also socio-economic benefits and support the shift to more environmentally sustainable supply chains for industry in the Raahe region, as the port investments lower GHG and pollution emitted per transported tonne.
The project will also promote efficient and sustainable use of the existing transport infrastructure by removing a bottleneck in port infrastructure for increasing transport volumes and vessel sizes. The potential of the deep fairway to the port can be used more efficiently when the new infrastructure has been constructed.
